Night Shift

It's currently just after midnight and I'm at work. Friday, we had to take my wife's old dog up to a vet where they determined he's got glaucoma and is blind in one eye as well. We had a good day, though. I was going to work during the day today (Saturday), but after the girls went to sleep, my wife and I decided it would be fine to go ahead and go in. It did make getting everything I need to get to easier. I think a few of the departments run on Saturday, so this negated that problem. I just wrapped up everything I could that was due for preventative maintenance in a separate building than my desk, so now I'm just taking a short break and completing some of that paperwork before unloading the test equipment and doing a few things at the main building. It's late and has been a long day, but I feel fine. Probably won't be much different feeling than when I have insomnia...

With 2026 approaching fast, I'm trying to decide if I want to try to implement a tab system by year for the blog or just have a link to other years at the top of this page. It looks like the tabs would require some JavaScript to actually work, so I'm leaning toward just making a new page for 2026 blogs and linking here at the top instead. It's not really a big deal in the end, anyway.

Also, this year has been difficult in many ways. My wife and I have had squabbles galore on top of all the health things and chaos. And I'm sick of the enemy having such a grasp in my life. I spoke to my mom about things and she mentioned how there was around a year of her life she questioned God and couldn't even bring herself to pray... but got by by eventually just saying "Jesus" in moments. Hearing thata she struggled in that as well sometime was something I needed to hear. I'm one of those people that don't ever really feel God's presence. It's really hard to trust in Him or anything. But despite that, I want to seek Him more and more to end this year and start 2026. To make sure my kids are hearing the Bible and praying each night before bed. To read scripture and devotional things with my wife most days. To read the Bible more myself in general. To just engross myself in it more. And if you think that's silly, well that's okay. I do believe in God. In Jesus. And in the end, if the Bible is true, great! Heaven awaits. If not, no harm done. I'd rather be on the Bible side just in case. Plus it'll probably bring more unity and peace in my life in general. So...

I'm thinking about just posting me just talking occasionally on TikTok as well. I've posted a few random things, like birds caught on video by our birdfeeder, things at my work, etc... but I'm thinking about doing little vlogs occasionally as well. I doubt anyone will watch them, kind of like I doubt anyone is reading this. It's more for me. An outlet, if you will. Little snippets of my thoughts I could go back to sometime and see. Maybe I ought to get more detailed in this, with that in mind... Maybe next year. Like go into more details about what my family did since the last post, my more in depth thoughts, hopes at the time, future plans, etc. Hmm. Yeah. I probably will.
And if I'm going to do that, I should definitely make this site a bit cleaner. Easier to look at, if you will. In the current state, I'm aware it's a little ugly. I don't know, I'll probably just drop some stuff in a no-code site builder and copy-paste it over. Sure, I'll lose the nice labelling I've worked into the HTML and CSS coding, but I mean, I could do it again later on. Transferring all the blogs would be a mess... Maybe I'll just leave 2025 as a relic of the past and do 2026 with a new skin. Probably.

I don't think I've mentioned it, but my last phone and my current phone have been Samsng foldables. I managed to get a Z Fold 3 for $300 brand new a while back and really enjoyed it. I didn't use the inner screen a whole lot, but it was nice to have when I did. And a few months ago, I was able to trade in an old phone to get the Z Flip 7 for free, essentially. I do like the front screen for use with certain apps and being able to reach everything easily, but I find myself using the inside of this phone much more than I did on the Fold. Partially this is due to Samsung limiting the apps you can use on the cover screen. Several of them either say "Open phone to continue" or just don't really work with any of the aspect ratios you can use. All in all, I'm thinking about switching back to the Fold 3. The next phone I get will likely be just another brick. Or something more off-the-wall like the BigMe HiBreak Pro. It's a phone with an e-ink display, which would force me to limit my consumption of pointless media better and make reading better. (I've finally charged my Kindle Paperwhites again to use.) I'm not certain how well the HiBreak would work in the USA, though. I'd have to look into it more. But I'm likely stuck using the Flip 7 (or Fold 3 if I do switch back) for another couple of years until it's "paid" off. The "free" part was bill credit after trading in the old phone. Which, thinking about it, I guess that just means I'm stuck with the provider. Not the phone. So if a really good deal comes up on one of the phones I'm eye-balling, then maybe I'll jump ship to it. Who knows.

Anyhow, it's time for me to get back to work. Hope you all have a great night, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
