iPhone 13 Mini and Digging
As stated in the previous post, I ordered an iPhone 13 Mini. As someone who's always been a power user on Android phones, it's strange. I do not like how the notifications work, but it'll just take some time getting used to. Plus, this way I'm more likely to miss the non-important notifications, so I guess that's a feature, not a bug? I ported my photos over to iCloud from Google Photos via Google Takeout, so that was easy. For everything else, I moved what I wanted manually. I'm not installing any games, no power apps... just the basics like banking, authenticators, communication, and minor entertainment apps.
It's been about a week using only the iPhone and I can't say I miss the Android OS as much as I thought I would, honestly. But only because I specifically went iOS to not use the phone as much. You can't customize it nearly as much and can't sideload apps (unless you jailbreak, which I'm not)... but all in all, I don't hate it. I have what I need and things just work. I could see myself sticking with the Apple ecosystem in the future is I don't start craving the power user aspects of phone use again. Not because it's better, but because its worse for my use case.
Everything I was worried about, I was able to move over fairly easily. The hardest thing was the podcasts, which wasn't too bad, really. I use Podcast Addict on Android, but that app is not available on iOS. I did not like the Apple Podcast app, so I found PocketCast. The cool thing about that one is I was able to import all the subrsciptions over from Podcast Addict to it on my Android phone. I just had to manually mark which episodes were played. After that, I signed in on the same account on the iPhone and it synced everything over. Easy. As for music, I'm using 8SPINE for playing specific songs/playlists and Amazon Music if I was to start a station based on a song/artist. It's slightly more cumbersome, but 8SPINE's station feature isn't really working currently. At least for me.
My parent's helped me get the old house closer to being ready today. Things are sectioned out. The big thing today was we moved my old truck to my new place. So now I'll have it close by and put more time into trying to get that starter motor replaced! While we were loading that, the neighbor that cuts the field for hay stopped by and when I asked if he knew anyone with a mini excavator, he asked what for... And ended up coming back with his tractor that has a backhoe on it. He dug the trench and hole I'll need for replacing the old gray water septic tank in like 15 minutes and wouldn't accept anything for it. Now I'll just have to finish digging what's inside the fence, but I already have that about 75% of the way there. But him doing that was very nice and saved us a lot of manual labor.
Tonight, I streamed for a while on Twitch, utilizing the new headset that can pair to my Steam Deck and laptop simultaneously. My brother and friend were watching and queued songs for the bot to play as well. It all seemed to work very well; the viewers hearing the music fine, game fine, and myself not having things doubled. I just have to go into an app called qpwgraph and sever the audio connection from SteamLink and the headset. Takes like 2 seconds to do before starting up. With how flawlessly it worked tonight, I could see myself keeping this setup for a lot longer. Not worry about getting a desktop anytime soon.
Not that I was thinking about a desktop computer soon, anyway. As it stands right now, the order of operations is: sell the house, buy a 12'x24' garage to be delivered, then get a UTV. Initially I was thinking a single bench seat UTV like the Polaris Ranger 590, as it's the smallest one that would be good for the steep graded hills I live on... But thinking about it more, I may want something that has a second row of seats. That way when the kids are a little bigger, there's more room. Plus if my mom or someone else wanted to ride with me and the kids somewhere, they'd have space. A single bench seat would not. But that'll be after the garage, so I'm not activately looking for anything yet. I may even look into carports before a UTV. Certainly will get another dump truck load or two of gravel delivered before then. For the driveway.
Other things I'm not ready to fully disclose yet may be coming to a big breaking point soon, which is good. Just waiting on some clarification, but it sounds like agreements have been pretty much made. Just pray it works out, please.
I've also recently started talking to an old friend again. We hadn't talked in about six years, but it doesn't feel like it's been that long. It feels pretty natural. I feel like it'd a Godsend to have someone to talk about what's going on who isn't polarized about it. We got together and played a few board games recently, which was really nice.
And as always, hope anyone reading this is having a good day. Feel free to message me through one of the options in the Links page!
